3000 personnes évacuées, 13 tuées et au moins 3 portées disparues c'est le bilan des pluies diluviennes qui se sont abattues sur Haïti ce samedi, provoquant des inondations et de nombreux dommages.
Plusieurs secteurs de la ville des Cayes ont été inondés, forçant des dizaines de personnes à se réfugier sur le toit de leur maison. Le secteur agricole, les infrastructures routières ont été gravement touchés par les intempéries, les autorités ont fait état d'éboulements dans plusieurs localités.
Gilou Saneglin Goin, un entrepreneur haïtien des Cayes a déclaré : "Nous au moins on a des maisons ici. A Port-au-Prince, ils n'en ont pas, ils sont dans la rue". M. Goin dit appréhender l'effet de ces pluies torrentielles quand elles toucheront la région de Port-au-Prince d'ici quelques semaines : "Tous les cadavres coincés dans les ruines, qu'est-ce qu'ils vont en faire? Toutes les odeurs, les maladies. L'eau dans laquelle ils baignent, celle que vous buvez, c'est la même eau! Une catastrophe au-delà de toute proportion humaine !"
3000 more people evacuated, 13 killed and at least 3 missing is the temporary toll of the torrential rains that hit hitting Haiti non stop this past Saturday Feb 27th, causing even more devastation and damages.
Some areas of the city Les Cayes have been severely flooded forcing tens of people to take shelter on the few rooftops of the houses still standing. The agricultural industry, the road system and infrastructure have been damaged by the bad weather and authorities have already reported several mud slides in a few other areas.
Gilou Saneglin Goin, an Haitian contractor of Les Cayes declared "We, here, still have our houses at least. In Port-au-Prince, they are homeless and live in the streets." Mr Goin said he is very worried about the effects of the torrential rains when they will reach the area of the Nation's Capital a few weeks from now. "All the bodies still trapped inside the many ruins, what are they going to do with them? All the odors, the diseases. The water they bathe in and that which they drink, it is the same ! A catastrophy beyond human proportions !"
